Waitangi Tribunal

This specialty area of law relates both to the procedures and practises for hearings before the Waitangi Tribunal under the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975, and also advice on the consequences of a claim that has been made to that Tribunal, the outcome of any claim or potential claim to that Tribunal.

Some land owners are concerned that their ownership rights are, or might be, affected by any such claim. Some Maori or Maori tribes are concerned that the rights that they have in respect of land or other property or other taonga might be being affected by, or damaged by, land ownership or Governmental activity.

Some members have specific expertise in this area and can advise on the rights of the different parties and the procedures to be followed to obtain a ruling from the Waitangi Tribunal or indeed, if necessary, Court relief.
